TORAH STUDY, SHABBAT SERVICES AND POTLUCK DINNER
FRIDAY APRIL 14

Rabbi Larry Raphael will lead Torah Study and Shabbat Services this Friday evening
beginning at 5:00 pm. The parasha this week takes us back to Exodus in the middle
of the Passover celebration and is called Chol HaMo-eid Pesach. Here the Eternal
passes before Moses and proclaims the 13 Attributes, or Middot, of God. Since this
is Passover, the Potluck will be catered and the food approved appropriate for the
holiday. Please join with us. The weather should cooperate, although snow and the
Shabbat have come to be synonymous!

COMMUNITY PASSOVER SEDER A HUGH SUCCESS

Over 80 attendees joined Rabbi Yakar at the annual NTHC Seder at Granlibakken on Monday, April 10. The “Yakar Haggadah” provided a service for all ages. The guests were treated to an unexpected appearance of Moses himself and the children were duly rewarded for their Afikomen search. “Next year in Jerusalem” (or Granlibakken whichever is most convenient).

THE TEMPLE NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE – REALLY! IT’S TIME TO HELP

The Temple has had a successful “transition” year featuring stimulating guest Rabbis, a vibrant Religious School, and successful celebrations of all of the major (and minor) Jewish Holidays. We are eagerly awaiting our new partnership with Rabbi Yakar. But it “takes a village” to run a successful congregation. We need assistance. The Temple Board (11 members) is comprised of 9 seniors and a few “super seniors” (We never ask age!). Three of the Board are “part timers.” Our Temple secretary is here only 10 hours a week. This is a VOLUNTEER organization that is currently maintained by a small core of engaged, dedicated and overworked people. We need help if we are going to prosper in the next few years. The Board meets 10 times a year for 90 minutes. The Education Committee, the Religious Committee, a Personnel Committee, a Fund Raising Committee would meet 2-3 times a year. It cannot be the same few who do everything, continue to do it all.

Please consider where YOU can donate a small amount of time and let Miles Adler know.
IT’S TIME TO STEP UP, PLEASE!

USING SCRIP TO PAINLESSLY PROVIDE FUNDS FOR THE TEMPLE

For many years, we have been advertising the SCRIP program at the bottom on the eBlast, and it islikely that few every read that far down! Well, not today – it’s been given a loftier position. This program is a “no brainer” for raising funds for the Temple. We all eat-right? We shop at Raley’s and Safeway for the most part. For every $100 dollars you spend there (a small bag of groceries, unfortunately) the Temple makes $4.00. We all spend $3,000-$5,000 or more a year at these stores.

We buy hundreds of dollars of “stuff” with Amazon. Another 4% rebate. It’s easy!
Just send a check made out to the NTHC and mail it to Marcy Thompson (see your directory) and these SCRIP certificates come to you FedEx in about a week! If just 10 families who spend $3000/year at the grocery used SCRIP, we would net $1,200.
NOW……..please read the last paragraph in the eBlast. Thank you.

You can help raise funds for the
Temple when you shop
!

Fundraising With Scrip is easy and profitable for the Temple. Most large retailers offer substantial rebates with the purchase of gift cards from their businesses.

The cards generally come in $25 and $100 denominations and never expire. They can be used for all purchases and if not fully used in one transaction, they retain their value for the next trip to the store. To date, the Temple has received over $1800 in funds from the Script program just by shopping in stores we all usually frequent.

EXAMPLES – (percentage of rebate in parenthesis):
Safeway (4%), Raley’s (4%), Save Mart/Lucky (2%), CVS (6%),
Ace Hardware (4%), Home Depot (4%), Lowe’s (4%), Amazon.com (4%)
Bed, Bath & Beyond (7%), Old Navy/Gap/Banana Republic (14%),
Macy’s (10%), Dillards (10%). Lands End (16%), Ross (8%), TJ Maxx (7%)
Starbuck’s (7%), Subway (3%) – these are sold in $10 and $25 cards

The list is endless! Go to http://www.shopwithscrip.com to see the retailers that participate. Then contact Marcy Thompson at mlttruckee@yahoo.com to place an order. You send a check to Marcy (made payable to the Temple – NTHC) and the gift cards will be delivered to your home, your post office address or to the Temple in about one week. How easy is that?
