Slichot - Our Doorway into the High Holy Days

Leil Slichot is the evening that begins our High Holy Day Season in earnest. We’ve had many different ways to mark this moment in recent years. This year we will bring both Tahoe congregations together at NTHC and be led in a creative experience followed by a moment to mark the end of Shabbat with Havdalah.

A Note from our Program Leader: Matthew Rosenfeld

Hello my name is Matthew Rosenfeld and I am A bar mitzvah student and a member of NTHC. I am leading a hike on September 17 during which I hope to share the principles of LNT - Leave No Trace. I have become a trainer in LNT as part of my Tikkun Olam Bar Mitzvah Project. The hike will be in the North Tahoe regional park. It will be at the most a mile and time wise it will be an hour and a half. You should bring a day pack with everything you think you will need. We will share what we have at the start of the hike. The 7 principles are Plan Ahead and Prepare, Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces,Dispose of Waste Properly,Leave What You Find,Minimize Campfire Impacts,Respect Wildlife,Be Considerate of Other Visitors. We will cover all of these principles. After the hike we will come back to the temple and do shabbat services. For services we will do the wine blessing, The blessing over the twisted candle and more. I hope you will join. It will be fun.
